Philippe Jaccottet (1925–2021) always cultivated an intimate relationship with art. In this centenary year of his birth, the Musée Jenisch Vevey wishes to pay tribute to this emblematic figure of contemporary poetry. In collaboration with his nephew Florian Rodari, a focused exhibition brings together works by artists whom Philippe Jaccottet cherished. The inventions of Marc Chagall, Alberto Giacometti and Giorgio Morandi, alongside those of his closest friends – such as Lelo Fiaux, Gérard de Palézieux, Jean-Claude Hesselbarth, Antoine Poncet, Gilbert Koull and Jean Eicher – resonate with the writings of the poet, who was quick to embrace their light and emotion. This dialogue invites the public to discover how Philippe Jaccottet’s inspired and profound words transform the experience of the work of art, adding a deeply human dimension to the purely sensory approach.
Other events related to the celebration of this anniversary are being organised by the Centre des littératures en Suisse romande in Lausanne, the Fondation Ateliers d’Artiste in Saint-Maurice and the Musée du Vieux-Moudon.
An exhibition curated by Nathalie Chaix, director, and Florian Rodari, publisher and curator of the Fondation William Cuendet & Atelier de Saint-Prex.
