An ideal collector
Since 2005, thanks to the generosity of Edmond Bourqui and his successive donations, the City of Vevey’s collections have been enriched with almost 300 prints. An enlightened amateur, it was in the course of his encounters with a variety of artists, printers and gallery owners that he brought together this eclectic corpus. Committed to promoting the art of printmaking, this ‘ideal collector’made a point of supporting the creative work of cultural actors through his choice of acquisitions, thus acting as a benefactor.
The exhibition gives pride of place to contemporary printmaking, and reflects the view of the collector in search of inspirational works. While traditional engraving techniques share the limelight with contemporary experiments using the medium, the figurative subjects dialogue with geometric motifs.
